Help Louise's leg heal so she can run and play again!

About Louise:

  • Location: Ponca City, OK
  • Breed: Shepard mix or Mountain Cur mix
  • Age: 4 months
  • Best Trait: Happy-go-lucky
  • Medical Problem: Complicated broken leg
  • Treatment: Surgery

Louise was one of a brood of puppies surrendered to a rural municipal shelter. She was taken into a foster home, but a few weeks later the family brought her back to the shelter, as they were moving and couldn't bring her along.

Unfortunately, Louise returned with a broken leg. It's likely she was hit by a car at some point, and during this difficult year it's understandable that the family may not have been able to afford proper care for Louise. Thankfully, they brought her back where she could be taken care of.

X-rays revealed that Louise had a complicated fracture, the bone broken at the growth plate of this still-growing puppy, and the patellar tendon torn loose. The treatment was a complicated surgery involving multiple fixes. The shelter's veterinarian was confident he could accomplish this surgery, but it was costly. Now that it's been performed, Louise will be in a cast for six weeks with limited activity and regular bandage changes. She needed a warm, soft place to recover, and a wonderful volunteer offered to foster her in her recovery phase. The vet says the prognosis is good.

You can help Louise heal from this traumatic injury. Your gift will directly cover her surgery and recovery care. Soon, this growing girl can begin to live the life a puppy should have in a loving home.

Help us meet our goal of $2,000 to repair Louise's leg so she can run, play and explore happily in a world that welcomes her. Funds raised over the goal amount will go to help provide medical care to other shelter pets.
